Martin is a busybody know-it-all who runs (or tries to run) the community. His uptight personality drives some of his neighbours up the wall. His real life starts on Friday night when he gets home to his committees, supported by his faithful followers, Howard and Hilda.

His patient and loving wife, Ann, however is often driven to despair by her husband's schemes and receives more attention from their new neighbour, Paul, than she gets from Martin!
